The Big Picture
If you’re shopping for your first camera, you’ve already met the problem: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus — and behind them, a wall of megapixels, autofocus systems and burst rates.
Here’s the short version: the brand matters a lot less than you think. All four make cameras that take excellent photos. What matters more is how it feels in your hands, what your friends shoot, leaving room in your budget for a memory card and a lens later — and learning the one you buy.
Location Spotlight
This week’s best location isn’t a park. It’s a camera store.
Specs can’t tell you whether a grip fits your hand or whether you can reach the buttons. Go hold a few cameras before you buy. The one you want to pick back up is telling you something.
Community Spotlight
What camera did you start with — and do you still have it? Hit reply and tell me. I’ll share a few of your answers in a future issue.
Worth Sharing
The full write-up covers when buying used makes sense and how to shop smart if you buy new. If you know someone stuck comparing spec sheets, send it their way.
Your Turn
This weekend, 10 minutes: still shopping? Hold two cameras and notice which one you want to pick back up. Already have one? Find a setting you’ve never touched and learn what it does.
Then quit shopping and go take some pictures.
Keep practicing,
