One of the easiest ways to improve your photos has nothing to do with your camera settings.
Instead of taking every photo from eye level, change your perspective.
Get down low for flowers, pets, or kids.
Stand on a bench or small hill for a higher viewpoint.
Move a few steps left or right to simplify the background.
It's amazing how much more interesting a photo becomes just by changing where you're standing.
Homework: Go outside today and photograph the same subject from three different heights:
Standing
Kneeling
Ground level
Compare the three photos. Which one grabs your attention first? You may be surprised how much a simple change in perspective improves the image.
